Hello,
I have two salvaged pcs. of 1.5″ thk. 4’x3′ MDF with Formica on yes both of the primary faces and was thinking about gluing a pc of 3/4 plywood to one face and then using this as a bench top in the shop. Do I need to remove the formica or will yellow wood glue or contact cement adhere to the show side of formica? If not contact cement, is yellow wood glue adequate and if not then what adhesive is recommened? Is abrading the formica recommended or not with the adhesive? If the recommendation is to remove the formica before glueing then what’s the easiest way to remove formica from MDF?
Thanks in advance.

Generally glue doesn't bond really well to laminate. Why not use screws to laminate the ply to the MDF? The ply is thick enough that the screw threads can grab it well. Put screws on 8" centers or so, and the top will be solid.
I assume that the p/w will be on the bottom? If so, I would use liquid nails, and a bunch of screws.
