Need to buy a new 8″ jointer, any ideas . I would like to keep it under $2000.00 with shipping to Portland, OR.
Grizzly, Jet, Powermatic, who has any of the new ones and would you buy another one?

8" jointer
I just bought an 8" Grizzly G0656P a month ago and have been jointing red oak and cherry and it is a dream machine. Delivered , with lift gate service included, it came to about $950 here in NY. I was prompted by the size of a 72" length as opposed to all others with a 76" length which adds about another 50-60 lbs (and much higher cost) as I had to maneuver it around tight corners and into my basement (see my posting of 3/12/11 titled "8" jointer into basement workshop"). After checking all critical areas of concern for a jointer it was basically a turn key machine. The only thing I found needed adjustment was retightening the motor mount nuts as I was experiencing excessive vibration. Both tables are perfectly coplaner and I'm really pleased. The machine comes basically disassembled and the heaviest piece (bed and tables) was about 210 lbs. which my 2 sons could handle with ease. Yes, I would buy another one......perfect for my needs.
Me too
I've had a grizzly jointer for about three years with no complaints. It makes boards dead straight and dead flat (as long as I do my part to set the knives right). With minimal tearout the surface is so perfect it will suction lightly to the outfeed table. A jointer can't do much better than that IMO. I would upgrade the knives to a better steel, though. The ones that came with left a little to be desired for me.
The Delta DJ-20 has long been the design to emulate. I haven't seen current build quality, but the one I had some years ago was an excellent machine in all respects. (I don't have it now only because I now have a 16" Hammer)
8" jointer
I have a DJ-20 that is about 5 years old. I really like it- I have never had any issues from the day it was set up. But if I were to buy a new jointer I would probably look for a shelix or similar cutter head and a machine that has the switch up high like on some of the newer machines.
