To all who own a 10″ scms, any brand.
Couple questions, first what is the measurement front to back on your saw or how much table do I need front to back. I might need to make a new table for the shop, darn. Sorry honey, more time in the shop. Second, anyone heard any real negatives on the new Bosch up-front controls. It looks sweet as hell and comes with a price tag to match. I haven’t seen any come through Ebay and breaktime didn’t have anything negative to say. it may be too new. The saw will see all kinds of stuff from crown to kids sandboxes and fine furniture( or maybe not so fine LOL). Any and all comments and curses welcome. Thanks a bunch. PS. I ordered the Grizz 14 ultimate today, yeah for me. it was serious rat-holing to get it past the she-bear but oh so sweet the feeling to hang up the phone.

The 12" CSMS's don't really have any signifcant extra cross cut advantage over the 10" models. But they can cut through a 4 X 6 or 4 X 6, and they can also handle the really large crown moldings.
There are some that say you won't get the accuracy with a 12" blade that you do with a 10" -- but I really don't know one way or the other.
Also, the 12" models are obviously bigger, but they are also heavier, and more difficult to lug around.
EDIT: My 10" is against a wall, and as I recall, the table depth is nearly 30."

Ah! It took me a few extra seconds to see what you were getting at. So, you're asking about a 10" sliding compound miter saw vs. a 12" regular compound miter saw, right?
Looks like you'd be choosing between crosscut capacity and height capacity, for one thing. A 10" slider will crosscut up to 12" . A 12" regular (I own the slightly older Bosch 12" CMS) will only Xcut to 5-7/8" but you get an extra 3/8" in height (3-7/8 vs. 3.5"). I love being able to Xcut 4x4's with mine, but that's for firewood, LOL!
The difference in Xcut is way significant. Do you need it?

Another thing to consider: Do you have a table saw? I have a 10" TS, and went with 10" rather than 12" for the miter saw so I only have to buy and stock one size. The price difference for those 12" blades sure adds to the ongoing cost of ownership.
