Woodworking benches are designed to place the workpiece at a height that’s ideal for hand-planing. But that height is often too low for routing and handwork. Jeff Miller, Chicago furniture builder, teacher and writer, designed the mini-bench shown in this video to raise the action to a comfortable height. Find out how to build it in a companion article.

Rockler Dust Right 650 CFM
While all five of the smaller units will collect chips efficiently when deployed properly, the 3/4-hp Rockler was just a bit more powerful in our suction test. Bag changes were very easy too, thanks to a lip on the lower edge of the
canister, which holds the bag in place while you operate the clamp. The Rockler 650 also hangs very solidly on its bracket, which helps when you turn the filter-cleaning crank.
Hedgehog featherboards
The Hedgehog's unique spiral shape and single knob make it easy to set up and fast to adjust.
Grout float
The red foam on these grout floats grip well to wood, and the large handle keeps your hands safely away from bits and blades.
WoodRiver Bevel Edge Socket Chisel Set
These chisels are well balanced, with a light-weight handle that makes gripping them down by the edge during chopping less fatiguing than many other chisels. Each chisel only requires a few minutes of work before its back is polished and ready to go. Similarly, the bevels all have a consistent grind that is quick to hone to razor sharpness. The smartly shaped beveled edges give the tool good mass, but with a very fine, consistent land (the flat between the side bevel and back) that won’t interfere with working in confined spaces.
Among the most powerful HEPA-rated shop vacs on the market, Fein’s Turbo II is quieter, more compact, and nimbler than the rest.
