Made You Look: An overcomplicated but fun shooting board
Sometimes an overcomplicated version of a simple project, like a shooting board, is just plain fun (plane fun? HA!).-This video doesn’t allow embedding, so you’ll have to click over to the YouTube link to watch it.
Last week, one of our Discord members, John, shared a video with us.
“This shooting board concept really scratches an itch for me because it uses a linear rail. I built a voron 3d printer, which uses a bunch of linear rails. They are so fun.”
I’m with John. Sometimes an overcomplicated version of a simple project, like a shooting board, is just plain fun (plane fun? HA!).

Interesting and fun video.
At 1:14 in the video, the woodworker is using a variation of a vernier caliper to orientate the the sliding device to the edge of the board. I have also seen it used to mark the offset from the edge of a board with a pencil or marking knife.
I have searched for the device without success. I have also seen it used in other Asian woodworking videos. It does not seem to be available or popular in the United States. If anyone is familiar with this tool, where is it available?
Thanks in advance.

jtj
A google search for "vernier depth gauge" pulls up some relevant options.
