FWW Art Director at Lie-Nielsen Hand Tool Event
Demonstrating hand tool skills in Philadelphia, Oct. 12 and 13The art director for Fine Woodworking magazine, Michael Pekovich, will be one of the woodworkers demonstrating their skills at the first of seven Lie-Nielsen Hand Tool Events, in Philadelphia. The event will be held at the Philadelphia Furniture Workshop on Oct. 12 and 13.
In addition to overseeing the design of each issue of FWW, Pekovich has written several articles for the magazine. One of his most recent covered hand-tool skills, which forms the basis of his demonstration. He’ll be showing how to cut straight with a back saw, how to pare with a chisel, how to plane perfect chamfers, and other techniques.
The other demonstrators are:
Alan Turner, founder of the Philadelphia Furniture Workshop and a builder of heirloom-quality furniture. Mario Rodriguez, a frequent contributor to FWW and a member of the Philadelphia Furniture Workshop faculty. Turner and Rodriguez will focus on such techniques as sharpening tools, cutting dovetails, and making mortise-and-tenon joints.
John Economaki, president of Bridge City Tool Works, in Portland, Ore., one of the leading manufacturers of high-end planes and other hand tools. His demonstrations will cover molding planes he has designed. He’s also expected to discuss the modern-day tool business.
Christopher Schwarz, editor of Popular Woodworking magazine, will cover workbenches and cabinet scrapers.
Tom Lie-Nielsen, founder and president of Lie-Nielsen Toolworks, will demonstrate his company’s tools and discuss sharpening, hand-plane tuning, and joinery.
