Bridgewood - Benchtop Mortiser HM-11
The low-cost Bridgewood can cut long or wide workpieces and had little runout in our tests.

Properly set up and operated, a mortising machine cuts straight, square-sided mortises in relatively short order. The author had eight benchtop models shipped to his shop for a close examination. The Bridgewood has the lowest price of the machines tested, but no chisels and bits are included. Turning the top of the machine allows it to cut long or wide workpieces. It had the second-lowest runout in our test of the category.
