Contributing editor Roland Johnson reviewed four European-style jointer/planer combination machines in Fine Woodworking #190. These double-duty machines use a single cutter head to accommodate both jointing and planing. However, changing from one operation to the other requires manually transforming the machine.

In this video, Fine Woodworking editor David Heim demonstrates the changeover process on the MiniMax FS30 and the Rojek 315, two machines that received editors choice awards in our review. The process only takes a minute once you get the hang of it.

UPDATE: Rojek contacted us after this video was published to say that they recommend removing the fence altogether when switching their machine from jointer to planer.
