Sharpen Jointer and Planer Knives
comments (3) August 9th, 2010 in Jigs
This jig is very useful for sharpening jointer and planer knives at home. The method uses the scary sharp method (wet sand paper on plate glass or granite). Mending plates are used to secure the knife in the jig. Small brads are used to position the knife from the front of the jig. It has a bevel angle adjustment rod which has a small router bearing at the end. Once the bevel angle is adjusted you push the jig forward and backward accross the wet sandpaper in order to sharpen the knife. Works with both planer and jointer knives. Lee Valley carries a similar jig for Jointer knives only.

The one you made seems to be better as it rests on a bearing rather than a rounded bolt.
