Mirka Abrasives, Inc. has announced a factory recall on it's CEROS 650 and 550 sanders, citing three cases of electrical shorting which resulted in smoke and sparks being emitted from the unit. Mirka believes this short to be caused by a fault in a circuit board in the tool's handle.
All 5 or 6 in. CEROS sander, purchased after November 1, 2013, and within the following serial number ranges, are under recall and are eligible to be replaced:

349428672001 to 349428672048
403228672001 to 403228672048
404328672001 to 404328672048
344228673001 to 344228673048
344328673001 to 344328673048
346128673001 to 346128673048
347128673001 to 347128673048
403328673001 to 403328673048

The serial number can be found on the side of the plastic storage case provided with the sander and engraved on the side of the sander just above the dust shroud.
While no injuries or damage have been reported, Mirka and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission suggest immediately unplugging recalled units and contacting Mirka for a free replacement.
