Woodworker: Diego Miscoria

Hoping to design a comfortable and beautiful bar stool without upholstery, Miscoria spent a lot of time on the backrest of this steam-bent ash stool (22-in. deep by 22-in. wide by 41-in. tall). He added a small concave curve in the upper middle that keeps the sitter’s backbone from leaning directly on the wood. He chose ash for its excellent bending qualities, and added a wenge detail on the back to make things interesting. He says next time he’ll probably add wenge to the armrests, too.
