   Rabin,

   You've probably tried this - but I'll suggest anyway...

   Woodcraft Supply & Woodworker's Supply have Delta Band Saw
   Inserts that claim to "fit most Delta band Saws. May be worth
   a call to tech support to see if theirs fits the 18" saw.

   Grab a piece of 1/4" plywood; make a cut so the plywood covers the table; clamp the plywood in place and you have a "Zero clearance cutting surface".

   Depending on how critical your work is, just use two strips of thin packing tape, one to the left of the blade and one to the right. Leave the original throat plate in place and placethe tape strips so they touch the blade. The cheaper the tape, the thinner it is. Someone makes replacement throat plates out of plastic and all you have to do is cut your own slot, but a roll of tape is a lot cheaper.
