This has been todays browsing bargain on the market stall. Is is complete, although the breast plate may be re-cast since a corner is broken off.
The variations of action are two speed gearbox, plain ie fixed, left hand ratchet, r/h ratchet, r/h double ie turning r/h when the handle oscilates, and locked for auger changing.

Sorry, I will put a photo up tomorrow. I had just got home and was chuffed with the find.
I hope this is OK. I have started cleaning it up.
mufti, are you a collector? I found one of those in a huge lot I bought at an auction a couple of years ago. Didn't even know it was there.Steve
Not an intentional collector, although my wife might have a few things to say about that! I just hate to see tools which I can see a use for being completely neglected, and it is surprising how often I can turn to a tool I bought years ago as the best for a job. I do not pay much but get quality and much pleasure by using discarded "gems".
Bummer of a birthdate, I hope you do not miss out on presents. Perhaps you could have an official birthday like our Queen, moving it to take advantage of tool sale times.

mufti,
Nice find. I got three of them brace thangs a friend was going to trash along with some other tools. Well one anyway and two others without the shoulder support.
What I'd like to know is how the chuck works? Yeah I know, you turn it to open/close the jaws :-). On one of them it seems to be frozen and the other one turns but doesn't close/open the jaws? The third one works just fine.

The trick here, Bob, is to completely remove the one which is working fine. After you have twiddled and poked it a bit you will end up with three useless chucks.
I think the thing to do involves a good soaking, whiskey is good, then tackle the chuck with jaws not opening. Give it a dose of easing fluid and a blowlamp flame, tapping the jaws gently. The springs holding the jaws up may be frozen or broken, but gentle heat in my experience often works wonders. If this works give the other chuck a go.
It's times like this I am glad I use an alias. Mufti in communicado (wherever that is).
mufti,
Sure that's a drill? Looks like some kinda radial saw to me.
Ray
Age is catching up with me, I was on the point of posting a different view of the brace! Nice one, Ray.
That saw is my key to cutting square shoulders on rails, having dispensed with a fence.
mufti, old paisley,
Always glad to help.
