WW Show in Chicago this coming weekend
Hello,
I’m going to be in Chicago this weekend for a wedding and I noticed that there is a WW show at a sports complex a few miles from O’Hare… I was wondering if anyone has gone the this show in previous years and whether or not it is a good show.
Thanks,
Castle

....which complex is it going to be in?
Its at the Odeum in Villa Park, but thats more than a few miles from Ohare. More like 15 miles. By the way, there is not going to be a show in Chicago in the spring. They are skipping it for some reason. Its a good show...I usually go twice a year.

Thanks. I guess I will check it out -- fortunately the fact that I have to get on a plane to come home limits the amount that I can buy.... :-)

The Chicago show is usually EXTREMELY unimpressive. It's a bunch of guys with loudspeaker headsets hawking router bits and bandsaw blades. I went a few times, but quit going about 3 years ago. Also, the Odeum, in my humble opinion, is an armpit!! Pay to park, pay to get in, pay 4 bucks for a hotdog, 3.50 for a coke, and go home thinking "what the heck did I waste my time at this for!!"

Thanks Jeff -- the last two years I have driven 70 miles each way to attend the Springfield, MA show and I leave thinking exactly the same thing....why on earth did I waste my Saturday afternoon... I noticed that the Chicago show doesn't have many "master class" style seminars scheduled and that seemed to me like a bad sign...if they can't attract the more popular names....Thanks again--M
I have heard vendors comment that the Chicago show is one of the less successful venues. Remember that this is the same show in every city, but the individual exhibitors and demonstrators may vary. Recently it has become more of a power tool expo, except the last show, where none of the big names in electric tools showed up. It was really refreshing. It used to be that there were small booths with finishing supplies, etc., that were really valuable resources. They are pretty much history now. You can buy a ladder there that folds about fifty different ways; and you know how handy that is in the old wood shop. There are a few good demonstrations though, if you take time to look at the schedule in advance.

I realize that it's essentially the same show city to city, I was just hoping that this show would attract more suitable vendors... Totally agree with you re: the power tool and "folding ladder" trend at these shows... worse still is the vendor with the flea market setup who is selling bungie cords, fistf fulls of drill bits for $1 and any other cheap close outs...I thought the fact that I was going to be in town this weekend was a lucky coincidence...to bad. Thanks again for the feedback.Michael
