Have never once said a peep about any new tool or wood purchase. Never complained about unfinished projects (a little ribbing but no real complaint). Has not complained about working on the shop when the new to us house needs work as well. And just now she mentioned that we have not done something in the new shop yet (hint 3 letter word ending with an x). Together 7 years, married almost 2 now.

Sounds to good to be true! It won't last! Better start a project in the house soon if you want to raise that woody in the shop.
She soundl like a "keeper", but why does she want you to make a "box" as the first new shop project?

I've got a wife like that too. In fact, she was the one who got me into woodworking when we got married 35 years ago and she wanted something to pur our TV in. I made a country hutch - pretty crude, but it got me hooked. And she has never complained about any tool puchases. Of course, I have not mentioned the Domino that i just ordered :)
We still have the hutch, too.

I guess we both have "keepers". My wife encourages me to get new tools, even without a project in mind. Why just today I was grousing about how much I've lost in the stock market & she said " isn't there something at Woodcraft that you need to go get?"

Ben,
If you want to keep that relationship going, may I suggest being discreet about some things?
38 years and counting.

I have no worries about her getting mad. My only concern was getting people upset on here. Being a little too off topic.
to me a keeper would say "Go out to your shop and leave me alone".two ways to screw up concrete 1) concrete driver 2) concrete finisher
Off Topic??!! I think we're all used to tangential posts in the middle of a thread. But this is you're thread so I'll play along. As to your original post (Joke approaching) make sure your bench is a comfortable height and is equipped (joke very close now!) with a sturdy TAIL VISE! BaDaBoom!! Har Har Har Sorry couldn't resist.peace

Well lets see I've got a stereo and TV in my shop as well as a fridge with various beverages. All I need to do is put some shades over the windows and clear the bench off. Well if I have to clean the bench off forget it.
Wow, must have picked a good wife..
I did also but she never went into the shop.. There were SPIDERS out there!
I'd clean off the bench and put something there she wanted.. Flowers, Diamonds, or just yourself if you are in a 'pinch' for ideas!
