I am building a computer desk and decided to use Wormy Maple lumber and plywood. I have never worked with Wormy Maple so don’t have the slightest idea as to how to prep the wood, apply a stain, and finish the project. Any suggestions??? I am not sure what to do with all of the worm holes etc. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. |

I would prep the wood the same way any other wood is prepped for finishing. Sand to remove saw and or planer marks as required. This could require 120 grit to 180 grit paper.
Coloring this wood can be done with a dye followed by a stain. Or, it could just be stained or left natural for that matter. It depends on what you want to see.
As far as the worm holes go, if you chose the wood for that character why would you be trying to treat them in any way?
What is your level of finishing experience?
Peter
