Like most, I always seem to be searching for the best sharpening system. When the WorkSharp 3000 came on the market I watched the reviews and then purchased a unit. I liked the system for chisels but was frustrated with the two inch width limitation on plane irons.
They recently released a Wide Blade Attachment for the unit so I decided to try it. The attachment has three parts, a table top extension, a roller guide, and an indexing unit that allows you to choose the grinding angle. It worked fine but I quickly realized that I could just use the table top extension and used the roller guide and indexing system from the Veritas Mk. II. This allows me to use the camber roller to put a slight radius on the plane irons.
The system is really just a motorized scary sharp system but it works for me. The WorkSharp abrasives are pretty expensive but for most of the grits I just use generic low-cost psa paper.

Sound interesting. Any chance you could post a photo or two?
Thanks.
Thanks for posting this. My wide blade attachment showed up a couple days ago but I haven't even had time to unpack it yet. I would suspect then that the MKII skew jig could also be used? That's another thing I keep wishing was built into the WS. I'll have to experiment and see.
If you build it he will come.
I don't know anything about the skew jig, but assume that it is similar to the regular and camber. If so, it should be fine.
The table extension part of the wide tool attachment is simply a small platform, with screws to adjust the height, that is level with the spinning sandpaper. It allows the user to use a roller guide to move the cutting edge across the sandpaper.
I don't want to imply that the roller guide that comes with the wide tool attachment is poor, it is fine, but I just like the guide from LV better.
