In FWW #139 John did an article entitled “New-Fangled Workbench”. I would like to know how the bench worked out. Can anyone tell me how I would go about getting in touch with him?
Cheers Greg

Find any of his posts here and click on his name, you'll get an option to email him. [edit: here's a post he just made.] He's posted in some of the table saw threads and threads about removing jammed jointer knives. If you're feeling lucky, you could use the search function (hearty laughter).
I recently saw a thread about this bench, but can't remember if it was here or in the "paid membership" section.

Thanks Forestgirl. Perhaps I will have a try at a search for it too. Though, as I take it from your post, you know the challenges with taking that route. I don't know about you, but I never know what I have done "right" when I get the info I am looking for, nor what I did "wrong" when nothing turns up. Well it is entertaining to say the least eh?Cheers Greg
john white posted something not very long ago saying his workbench had been good and they've been using it in the shop for 7 or more years. i think you can find the plan here online too.
Thanks gmoney. I have the issue in which John discussed building it. So unless it is appreciably different from the online plans, I think I have enough info to go on at this point. Since both you and Forestgirl commented on a recent post about the bench I will head into the breach to see what I can find.Wish me luck, GregEdited 3/1/2007 9:39 pm by gwsaltspring BTW I found the post from John, I should go buy a lottery ticket ;^)

I can't tell you about getting in touch with him, but I built the bench about 5 or 6 years ago. The bench is amazing, I use it a great deal especially when I need to hold something down to be planed or scraped.I consider it an indispensable tool in my shop.

Hey Tom;In my reply from John he said: "If I built another one, I would only make one change in the design, I would put a lip along the long edges of the center well to support the drop in panels rather than having the panels rest on the pipes."I'm curious if you have thought of, or executed any additions to the workbench. Actually if there are any other builders of Johns bench reading this thread I would be interested in your POV too. (perhaps I should start another thread on this topic)Cheers Greg

I built the bench as shown in the plans, I think the suggested change is a good idea. I'm thinking (after 5years 0f use) of adding some kind of a vise somewhere, although so far I really haven't needed it. Good luck with the bench, you won't be sorry you built it.

Greg,
If you have access to the "Ask The Experts" section, you can talk directly with John.
Thanks to all who replied. I just received an e-mail from John in response to my inquiry.Greg
