I’m interested in building a classical guitar (I’ve built one already in a class). The problem is getting access to a workshop (I live in San Francisco). Does anyone have any idea on where I can get affordable access to a woodworking shop? I think I will need somewhere around 100 hours. Thanks for any suggestions. Please feel free to email me with info ([email protected]). Dave

Hi Dave,
I don't know a thing about this place but take a look. http://www.grew-sheridan.com/pages/1/index.htm

Interesting. I have often thought about making my shop available.
Wonder what kind of liability insurance one has to carry, for the scam artist who cuts his finger and sues in the process?

I got two really big dogs I have fer that!
Interesting question. I wonder if having a liablity waiver signed would protect the shop owner. I'll have to talk to a lawyer friend about that.
Maybe http://www.sawdustshop.com/ . It is in Sunnyvale.
Looks promising. Thanks
If you're willing to cross the bay, Piedmont Adult School has woodworking classes. basically you go in with the design you want to build, and there's an instructor there to give pointers while you use the shop. Pretty nice shop too.
There's also an organization called the Crucible in Oakland. I believe they rent shop time. Another place to look would be the Bay Area Woodworkers Association. It has a website.
Eric in Oakland
Piedmont's not a problem. I'll look into it. Thanks
Laney college in Oakland has a well equipt shop and they have a class called furniture making for other majors that is a good start, One of the teachers is John Lavine the editor of woodwork magazine. They also have some had tool classes on the weekend one of which is taught by Jay Van Arsdale.
