My basement shop has limited space so I am designing a lumber/sheetgood storage closet in another part of my basement.
On paper its a great idea but the design would only allow for front loading of the rough lumber storage. I would have several racks with several boards per rack.
My question is, if I use only kiln dried lumber, would it be a problem not having the boards stickered in this lumber rack since it would be impossible to do so?
It is difficult to explain the design but as I said I would only be able to load the wood from the front and slide it in lengthwise. I will have a smaller storage rack in the shop that will be used only for milled boards that are being used in a project.

None of the wood I have on my lumber rack is stickered, and the vast majority of it is kiln-dried. I've not seen any problems, even with the stuff that's been there for 2 or 3 years. There are two big slabs of walnut that were 30 years old when I bought them, maybe 6 years ago, air-dried. It doesn't appear to have moved either.
I'm guessing that as long as you don't allow your area to get really, really humid, you shouldn't have any problems.

FYI, All My favorite lumber yards don't sticker their kiln dried lumber. They only sticker their air drying stock.

When you say "closet" and "basement" my mind jumps to "humidity" and "damp". I suggest that you provide for pleanty of air circulation.
