have to have a large ( 28″DIA) Ash tree cut down. If this wood is a good choice for a workbench (Ruobo style)
how should I have it cut?
Six inch thick quartersawn, 2″ thick quartersawn ( easier drying), 6×6 timbers 3×6 boards?
My sawyer says he cannot kiln dry a 6″ thick piece and that it will never air dry completely. How dry should it be for a bench. I know that I will have to flatten it repeatedly
If this is not the correct place for this post please advise. The tree is coming down Wednesday!!
Thanks

Ash for workbench
I'm not an expert on workbench woods, but . . .
Although Ash is not typical for benches, I would think it should be fine. I think I'd try to get enough quartersawn 10/4 x 5" for the top (so you end up with 2" finished), and then a mix including 4x4s for the corner posts.
