Besides redwood, does anyone have suggestions for different types of wood I could use to screen in a porch? The frames and such will be painted.

If your painting or staining, just use hemlock fir. When protected, it will hold up very well and is one heck of a lot cheaper.

Western Red Cedar would be another suggestion, it has much better resistance properties for exterior use than Hem Fir...
