Is there a kind of wood finish I can apply over a Dutch Oil that has a sheen look to it? The Dutch Oil was put on a piece of Indian Rose Wood and Bolivian Rose Wood. I had purchased Sam Maloof’s Poly/Oil Finish, and then when I received the product, the can says to not use on woods that have a natural oil in the them. So I called Rockler where I purchased the product, and they said there was no finish that could be applied to this wood, because it wood not penetrate through the oil and into the wood. I want a sheen finish, because the Dutch Oil leaves a dull look to it. Who can help me.

If you mean Danish oil (as in Watco), I almost always apply this prior to either poly or shellac to warm up the wood tone and accent the grain structure. I do let it dry for at least 2 days before applying the poly/shellac.

Yes, I ment Danish Oil. So would the Sam Maloof's finish work well for me?
IIRC, Sam Maloof finish is BLO, poly and tirps? If so, that's pretty much what Danish oil is anyway. So you should be good. You may wanna just give it a test on some scrap just to be sure tho'.

No, you don't want to use any oil or oil based finish on certain tropical exotic woods. Rosewood is one of these. Its natural oils prevent the oil and oil based finishes from curing.Maloof, Watco, Minwax Tung Oil Finish, real tung oil and linseed oil as well as oil based varnish and poly varnish are all finishes that should not be used on these woods.If you want a film finish, you can apply a couple of coats of a dewaxed shellac as a barrier coat. After the shellac has dried, you can apply any other film finish over it. You still can not apply an oil finish like Maloof or Danish Oil as these finishes can only be applied to unfinished wood.Howie.........

Wierd cause I often put blo on Stanley rosewood plane totes and knos that have had the flaking laquer sanded off down to bare wood. Always dries fine.
