Maybe Peter might be interested.

What did you have in mind for co-op?
Cheers,

i'm not sure what i have in mind.I work at mantie woodcraft, and we do all industrial millwork.very busy. I am looking for some space for personal projects and side work.i'm sick of 1 car garages and worries about noise and dust etc... I want some space i can work in, you know. I was apprehensive about sharing space, but i have seen some articles on co-op's and it seems workable.plus you get access to more machinery than you might have alone.there would have to be some serious groundrules about the care of machines and respect for space etc...I just think that there is also a great benefit to working with other talented people. More brains for one problem, new outlooks and experience to draw on.I was thinking of looking for a space in tillbury.it's close to me work and home.i'm not sure how that is for you.Rightnow it's all just a thought to work toward. I just made a new kitchen island (out side when the weather has been good...let's say its been weeks...and i'm not done haha)need some space soon or i will go crazy! I think if you get the right group, it can be great. let me know your thoughts, Peter.
The only thing I have seen along those lines was a long time ago in the Seattle area. It was a big place...guessing at 6000+ sq feet and $500,000 + worth of equipment. It was my only exposure to that sort of thing. One initially paid in to become a member and then there was some sort of system per hour charge. Plus consumables (if you wanted to use the BIG sander for pine, then you bought the belt). Cheers,Peter

I have a shop in the basement that I share with my girlfriend. Actually she is down there now drilling pen blanks. I work on River Road myself but would not likely avail myself of a shop there, except for special tools on an infrequent basis at best. Beside its too hard to take wood and such in a Smart car. :)You asked about guilds. You could ask if any would be interested in such an idea at the Pacific Woodworkers Guild, or a bit further out the Fraser Valley Woodworkers Guild. I'm not a member as I work afternoons and can't make meetings in clubs. There are also a couple turning clubs and a carving club in the Greater Vancouver area. http://pwwg.cahttp://www.fvwwg.caGood luck.
Have you heard of The Joint woodworking studio in Vancouver?

no, I have not heard of it. I think I will check it out, although I was thinking of something a little closer to where i live in ladner(delta).do they have a website? i think i will google it right now.thanks for the tip, Chris.
well, i looked them up....they do offer some classes it seems, but i am really looking for something to make a side/eventually full time business.also a place for personal/portfolio building projects. where i work now it is a sea of laminate and mdf....i want to make awesome furniture a cabinets from real wood.but it does pay the bills and i have learned alot.it is , however , a production shop at heart, and they like to move it through the door.still, i do get to play with tools all day long for 20 an hour.I am optimistic that i will achieve my goals, hopefully sooner than later!
