Hello any and all interested:
I’m considering upgrading a few windows in my home. I am interested in maintaining the original look of my home, hence my question:
Original windows are double hung sash and weight style. Some of the weights have come undone and since I am not particularly fond of the draft that these windows let in anyway I’d like to purchase sliding type grooves that I would place on the window casing on which a new window would slide up and down?
I am a gutsy do-it-yourselfer w/ success about 85% of the time when doing work at home.

Jose,
FWIW, my advice would be to get a copy of "Architectural Graphic Standards." It will tell you all you need to know in "graphic" detail.

*Dan I think Jose is talking about the plastic inserts you use to get rid of the counter weights I would check in the FHB site for someone that has done this kind of replacement. PS I love counter weight windows don't replace them fix them it's a lost art. {:Chris
*You can use sash springs instead of counterweights too. I think they can be retrofitted into an old window. You can also cut a piece of stock with various ledges at different distances from the bottom and use that to prop the window open.
*Back in high school I worked for a remodeler and I used to collect the cast off counterweights. re did an entire house with them,I removed all paint in the tracks remade all of the stops so I could screw them on, their suppose to be removable from the in side. Then I waxed and fit each sash. So smooth you would open them just for fun I still like the sound of clanking weights.Chris
*Thanks all.Jose
