I’m starting several cabinet doors which SHMBO thinks would look “just wonderful” if they had a woven panel instead of wood (She wants that tropical feel for the room.). I see her point & am willing to do this, but need to find a supplier of pre-woven material to do the job. Any of you have a list of suppliers, and thoughts on properties of the various woven materials, and any lessons of experience to pass on to a novice at this type of work?

Rockler sells what you are looking for. Go to http://www.Rockler.com and do a search under "cane".
Rockler was my first thought but Constanines has it too http://www.constantines.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=58
There is a company in Huntington Beach, Calif. that sells it if I rember correctly. I can't remember the first name of the company. Oh... I remember... Franks' Rush and Cane
Try: http://www.franksupply.com
Cane and Basket Supply Company , 1283 S. Cochran, Los Angeles CA 90019; (213) 939-7237 sells 21 different styles of pre woven natural cane webbing (and eight styles of man-made[wood pulp based] webbing), together with the tools and splines needed to install it.
For cabinet doors, make them as if they were single pane glass doors, but with a groove cut all around in the wood on the inside of the door where the glass would normally sit. Then hold it tight with the appropriate spline, trim the spline flush and finish with molding.
They also sell books on various wicker/caning subjects.
This place: http://www.hhperkins.com/ has more kinds of cane, rush, reeds, splints, etc. than anywhere else I know of. Some is prewoven.
