I know this has come up many times in the past but can’t remember what if any consensus there was on the topic.
I’ve been looking at the Exactor, Excalibur and Brett Cantilever style guards. They all seem to be in the same price range and right now am leaning towards the Brett because it looks to be the least hassle to deal with when ripping thin strips. The thing I don’t like about it is the small dust port 2 1/4″. And in our case dust collection is a major issue. Any opinions or experience out there?

I only have experience with the Excalibur, and I love it. Collects about 99% and easily swings out of the way. http://WWW.tools-plus.com (no affiliation)
Ted,
Take a look at this one:

I built mine with a 3" port. I have used this for the past 5 years and have been extremely happy with it. Regarding working with thin boards, I use an aux. short fence that is 6" out from the main fence and is 3/4" thick so the blade guard/DC rarely needs to be raised. Since it is short fence it is easy to feed the food with a push stick.

I too use the Excalibur and like it just fine.

I have the Excalibur and like it very much. its easy to slide out of the way for small jobs. it does a great job in picking up the dust.
