Would someone compare the Leigh DR4 and the new Portercable OmniJig Joinery system?
I’m wanting to buy one of the two but have not seen any one compare them.

If I'm not mistaken, that Omnijig is so new, I bet there aren't many people out there that have used both.
I just bought a Leigh Super 18", and so far I am very happy with it. My guess is you will be equally happy with the D4R. I like Leigh because they offer so many additional templates to go along with the original jig.
Good luck.
Jeff
I would bet my 24" Omnijig is 20 years old.
You know what I'm talking about, stop trying to be a wise a$$.
Actually, I missed the joinery system part of the first post. I'm a little behind the times, I didn't realize they had a new version!
It looks like a lighter, cheaper version of my old Omni with a few bells and whistles added.
I had never made a dovetail till I got the d4r. Made a stand to mount it to, and it came out great. Next one was a cedar chest box that had a DT joint about 12". The board was a nice one and I could not afford to screw it up (had one shot). The dvd and book was great, and I nailed it. Cant speak to the new omin, but the Leigh is tried and true. I tried for a few months to nail one on E-bay, but never could they would go close to retail. I'm looking now to get the bear ears templates.
If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it.
And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
The D4R has split fingers, which allows variable pin size. The Omnijig does not. I have heard that you can only use one bit with the Omnijig. Different angles are not compatible. I'm not sure if that applies just to the old Omnijigs or the new one as well. I think the Leigh is more versitile.
