I saw an article about the new Fisch mortiser with 3/4 h.p. motor. American Woodworker, I think??? Favorable review. Couple websites do not give it a favorable review.
Question. Anyone have one? What is your opinion? How does it compare to the 1/2 h.p. of Jet, Delta, etc.
Which one would you recommend I get? Why?
Thanks,

Good morning.
shop fox also has a two rail support colum, it looks a lot like the fisch. check out the prices!
although Ide buy the fisch chisels To put in what ever mortiser you get.
sincerly.

Curtis took the words right out of my mouth. I have the SF and replaced the chisels with Fisch.
Note: The JET, new Delta and General will all get the job done. I would shop prices as all will work and none are perfect. The SF double columns and height sold me when I found a floor display at $185.

Thanks for the input. Any idea if the SF and the Fisch are made in the same place?

I went to the web-site and they look very similar with a few exceptions. The paint of course and the handle on the SF is slightly longer and has a turn at the top. The SF columns do look taller as it has three positions to set the hydrualic shocks on the back. You can get some thick stock under it.
I do like the fact the Fisch has 1725 rpm as the Fox has 3450. As far as being made at the same plant as some of the jointers, I don't know. I would deem it possible from what I've seen of the market trend in the last several years.
I would consider the Fisch as it looks very similar to the Fox in column design. I do like the 1725 rpm. If the price were right I would give it a twirl just cause...??
