For furniture making with power tools you will need a table saw of some sort to do carefully controlled cuts.
A hand held Skilsaw guided by a straight edge is useful for breaking down sheet goods like plywood and for the first rough crosscuts on larger solid stock but a Skilsaw won't replace a table saw in the shop.
