I am looking to purchase a benchtop planer. Is there a comparison of current models anywhere?

Not much has changed, as far as I recall, except that the Delta 22-580 has been replaced with the 22-590.
I've had the Sunhill version of the basic Grizzly G0505 for maybe 4 years. Cost me $200 or so back then. Currently is $295 from Grizzly. In my view, a really great machine for the money. 1/8 inch knives - not 1/16. Resharpenable. Yes - gibs and springs - but once you get the hang of it - easy to replace.
I'm thinking of getting a second one to use strictly for final light cuts - after hogging off using the older (duller, nicked) one.
Given the price, two of them aren't that much more than 1 of almost everything else... (Except maybe the Ryobi - which to me looks lighter in construction, though I have never used one...)
I've had my Dewalt 735 for about 7 years, I buy all my material rough and have surfaced it all with this unit. No idea how many bf I've run through but I'm on my fifth set of knives and have had no problems what so ever. If it died tomorrow I would get another in a heart beat.
The Dewalt 735 gets my vote as well. I've run a lot of lumber through mine, including SYP when building my roubo workbench. Grat planer with exceptional dust control.
benchtops with helix head?
I too am looking for a planer. Many serius hobbyists are retrofitting the Byrd shelic into their Deltas and Dewalt units.
It is sooo common that it is just a matter of time till they can be ordered this way.
Anyone know of a way to buy one of these units new WITH the Byrd shelix in it? Hate to throw away a brand new head....so thinking of just wating till they offer it.
Don't want the one offered by acu-rite....
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
