I borrowed my neighbor’s pneumatic upholstery stapler and used his supply of staples, which are steel but not steel-colored (see picture). Is this a “liquor finish,” and what is its purpose? It can’t be just for the color, since staples wouldn’t be seen in the finished piece.
I asked my neighbor what kind of staples they are, so I can replace them, but he didn’t remember. He was nice and said to just go to Home Despot and get the least expensive, but of course I want to replace them with at least equal quality. Does stainless steel have any advantages over galvanized steel or liquor finish?

instead of "liquor" it might be "lacquer" (see link: http://www.upholster.com/upholstery-forum/index.php?topic=12061.5;wap2 ) although a lot do say "liquor". Here are a few places that you might be able to get them

ebay has them: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Staple-3-8-x-1-4-Liquor-Finish-Upholstery-Staples-/220863723542

Hope something in there helps.
Lacquer finish has been used for years for woodworking projects that require tough, durable and water-resistant clear finish.
