I was in Amish country this week and stopped to visit a drawer manufacturing shop and I noticed a stack of 1/4″ plywood that looked almost like birch but my eye said it wasn’t and the owner told me it was Obeche. I never heard of it an my local lumber company said they did not know what it was. The drawer Mfg. said he pays $6.00/sheet for ebeche. Is it as good a birch?? I pay $26.00 for birch here locally.

Here is the HobbitHouse page on obeche and their fact sheet, and here is the Pacific Western Wood Products page on the plywood. That'll get you started.
Thanks for the quick response. I will buy some for the next order of drawer boxes. The sheets I saw were almost identical to birch in color and grain pattern.
