Thanks for the compliment on the computer skills but I am still very much a learner.Idont know about count to ten but at the end of the day the bloke who taught me most of my wood working used to say dont just do this or that just go home!
bloke Is that a GOOD or BAD person?
can be either but in this case definitely a good bloke with a lot of good stuff to impart
Glad that we didn't lose you, congrats on battling back! It's been a rough summer for us, with not much time in the shop due to home projects and family crises, but I managed to get two projects done for a friend -- a cupboard/coat rack that's country style (one in red, one in antique white), and the "cremains" box for my father-in-law. Other than that it's been laying floor and rebuilding the side of the house from a terminte/ant infestation!
Here's the box, with his "102 with Lots to Do" hat:

Cubby looks like this, but not "distressed" and bigger:

Thanks for the good wishes, nice box even if it commemorates a sad event, not sure my computer skills are up to posting pictures yet but I have got as far as buying a digital camera.Sorry to hear about the termites we dont have a problem with them in england but we do get woodworm although thats only a real problem in furniture because most houses are brick built
Let us'n all know if you need help posting pictures. I'm familiar with the bug in the furniture -- used to buy and sell antiques and vintage furniture, and one of the auction houses would bring stuff over here from England and France. Once in awhile, a piece would be practically walking away on little insect feet!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
nivagthetool,
Give this a gander and let us know how you make out.

OK! first attempt to post a picture. The box was made from an offcut of an old church pew that I restored for my boss, the table is my bedside table and will eventually get a distressed paint finish. The lettering on the box was my first attempt and the figures maybe familiar to those in north london if a little dated now!If this works thanks to everyone for the help
By jove, I think you got it!

FORESTGIRL, Nice looking box built with love I'm sure. Would it be possible to frame the hat and have the two together, just a suggestion you may have other plans.Regds boysie Slan Leat.I'm never always right but i'm always never wrong. Boysie
Hi, Boysie. Actually, the box will be buried. Pop's first wife (my hubby's mom) died back in the late 1960's and she has a beautiful resting place in the Richland cemetary. Pop's box will go next to her in a cement "crypt" or something, and the two boys (hubby and his brother) will go there too someday.
I suspect we'll make some kind of a display with both the 101 ("and havin' fun!") and 102 caps in it. This family has some phenomenal pictures and portraits that go way, way, way back.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
