Me too, but it was an early gift back in the fall, A new Grizzly 1023 SL after my 23 year old Craftsman contractors saw finally gave it up. Merry Christmas to all.
Congratulations on the 1023! I've had mine for about 4 years now and she's a dream. I upgradded from a shopsmith. You will love the saw! Merry XmasGovernment's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
Thanks Bones! I already love it. The only problem that I have is that the On-Off Switch is on the left and after 23 yeras of turning on the table saw w/my right hand, it is taking a bit of getting used to. I quess if I wasn't so busy/lazy, I would look at moving it. I have been ripping some 8/4 QSWO with nary a complaint. The nickle trick was amazing. WOW no vibration after 23 years. My old Craftsman did yeoman's duty and was all that I thought I needed. Little did I know. I was both happy and a little sad to see her go. Merry Christmas to you and yours and have a prosperous and Haapy New Year
One of the (few) benefits of living alone is that "Santa" is easily fooled. He did, however, bring me some wood - 10bf trials of Coyote, knotty hickory, and ash from Woodworkers Source in AZ. (Hey, even Santa has to outsource some things. ;-) )
Santa went nuts and bought a Jet 14-42 1hp lathe with a 3 jaw chuck. I finally gave away the 1970s model Sears Lathe I bought used for $75 in 1993.

I was considering purchasing a new plane and a few mortise chisels but in the last couple of weeks I put a lot of discretionary spending on hold. I am fortunate to have managed my finances conservatively over the last few years, but I'm still scared sober about what our economy is going to look like for the next 4 quarters.
Judging by the retail sales numbers that came out today, it appears I was not alone... even a 40% drop in gasoline prices could not fuel consumers.
PS- I don't want to sound like debbie downer, but it's been on my mind a lot lately. I still ensured that my children enjoyed their Christmas... they are too young to have to worry about such things.

Well, I suppose somebody's got to save the economy -- might as well be me. :-)
We went a little overboard this year, no tools, though.
I got a 42" LCD flat panel and some slippers. (Why do dads always get slippers?)
My wife got a complete Wii system with a ton of games and a pair of UGG boots
My daughter got clothes, cash and more clothes
My son got a boutique amp head and 2x12 cabinet (yay! we can jam together.)
Regardless, we are always grateful for what we have and what we've received.

I got a 1943 p-38, oops, wrong forum...
what what ?? You got an escort fighter ?!!! SWEET! Ya can chisel mortises while hitting barrel rolls! in you new toy. 1943 p-38 grandpa said he loved that plane and always wanted one after guadalcanal and china>shhh, I didn't get diddly but my new subscription to FW. I'm brand new here oh wait I got myself a lignim V log for 150 bucks does that count? I'm scared to death to start carving it. Happy holidays all. Patrick.
Hey, my Dad had one of those, my brother has had it since he passed, a cool hand gun for sure.

Now every x-military person knows that a P-38 can be one of two things! The Lightning (forked tail devil) or a C-rats can opener. :-)Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!
Bruce S.
Bruce, three things, Walther made a p-38 that replaced the Luger as the German sidearm.
Ray
And a P... and a PPK.... I have the latter in 32 ACP, also known as the 9mm Kurz. Mine was made in 1967, and I still have the original box, along with the factory accuracy test sheet.
HO HO HO
Jeff
I've been out of the Army for a pretty good while, and our P 38 is the only "appliance" that has never been replaced in our household. How many Knotheads remember the four cigarettes that came in each box of C-rations? How about the "chocolate" that never seemed to melt?
Merry Christmas! (And a very special Christmas greeting to all who have served and those who are serving now)!
Ah! The B2 A1 can!!!!!!! Chocolate & Crackers ;-) Used to trade off the Chesterfields for a B2 A1 . Somethings will never be forgotten! Where did I put my glasses?????Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!
Bruce S.
Oh yes, I remember the four cigarettes. But I was inducted in 1956, a while after the war. I don't smoke, so gave them away. I understood that they were stale. Let me tell you, they couldn't have been any more stale that the cookies. Fifty some years ago and I still cringe when I think of them
There wasn't anything "fresh" about C-rations, was there? Unfortunately, I did smoke at the time, and those cigarettes burned pretty quickly! A couple of puffs and they were gone, but all of the ones I recall contained "high octane" tobacco (Lucky Strike, Pall Mall, Chesterfield, etc.). Low tar? Not a chance.
I still marvel at the infamous command, "Smoke 'em if you got 'em!"
Damn I always thought a P-38 was an great old aeroplane or a Army Can Opener!
Something like these?

Old memories...
Bruce ,
Sounds like a tool gloat to me ,,, congrats on the new tool .
I've got a new hat gloat to share with you all .
regards dusty
Dusty,
That hat is way too big for you as you have literally disappeared under it! Also, I believe that question emblazoned upon it may be misconstrued by folk with a large innuendo-area in their wetware.
Lataxe, who just has an oak leaf on the front of his hat.
Cool cap! But, isn't that leather bill a bit over the top ;-) Honestly, where did you find the cap? I think many here may be interested!!!Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!
Bruce S.
Bruce ,
The cap was a present from the lady wyfe , she had a fellow stitch the wording on the selected hat .
Here on Knots in a discussion lost in time there was some talk about how cool that it would be to have a shirt or hat that said " got wood ? "
I mentioned to her at that time that it sounded like a good idea ,,and the sweet thing that she is went out and pursued it .
I would imagine shipping would cost as much as the hat , but you never know .
My guess it was probably uncle Melvin David's idea , he thinks of everything.

Got every tool I put on my list.
Bosch router. (now I have 3 for different uses)
Specific router bits.
Dust collector remote.
Jet mortiser chisels.
Much more that is not wood related.
I got a 6500 watt generator. Next time we get a big ice storm I'll be all set.
Of course, just having the generator is probably insurance that I won't need it for at least 5 years.
We were pretty lucky this time around. Went 4-1/2 days w/o power. A fair number of people in the area (South-central NH) still don't have power now, after 2 weeks.
Don
Don: Take my word for it, use the generator once, and you'll be so happy with just the peace of mind of having it. Here in OKC in the middle of tornado ally, we have hardly any snow, but ice storms most years like the current East Coast storm. I would like to get a natural gas unit with auto transfer switches, but my PC 7500 watt manual unit works just fine. I have used mine in all four seasons. Good luck.
I got permission to order a fricking jointer!
It was my birthday and Christmas for the rest of ya lugs!
So the OYMO gave me a card that "read buy your Jointer!"
and I spent the day fussing and ordered a Helix 8" Grizzly.I have not a clue what I am doing... but I love it so anyway.
I also got a huge hunk of Mahogany from her and she said
"your buying all this junk and I seen ya make nothing!"
So I decided to get out of reading and setting up "SHED" (for you Lax)
and I resawed a piece of popular (nay wast the good wood on first winging) then I matched it up, best I could, making them book endings.
and cut up some QSRO into some ups and sideways' and glued it up.She tapped it hartly and it rattled... and I got a KissRich - Who is now eligible for his ARRP card but hates there agendaCapt. Rich Clark
--DUCT Tape is the "force"... It has a Light side and a Dark side and it binds the universe together
She tapped it hartly and it rattled... and I got a Kiss
Great! Did she tap on the wood or your head? :>).
So the OYMO gave me a card that "read buy your Jointer!".. Bet she wanted you to have it just to keep you out of the house!
Women are strange but no better thing God has made.
I must have fooled him again, my birthday is a few days before Christmas, so my gift is usually for both occasions, this year I received a 8" Steel City Jointer (Thanks Santa). So I started building a shaker blanket chest, I was told that it would look good at the foot of the bed I built last winter (who am I to argue with Santa). Happy Holidays to all, I am off to the shop to start cutting dovetails.
This is my Xmas present. I love this thing. It replaced a 28 year old Cummings Mack 14" 3/HP with a riser block that I bought for $88.00 at Uncle Bill's. I have already re-sawn 11-1/2" wide white oak to 1/8" slices. No vibration and VERY powerful. Dust collection for this beast is on a UPS truck headed straight for my basement. The dust collection isn't part of of the Xmas present. I had to give up two years of lunch money and allowances to get the dust collector.
Sweet looking bandsaw, and who needs lunch anyway?
You got that right Mike, I needed to lose a few pounds anyway.
Well I was a good boy, but I got mostly non wood working stuff. I did get a new left hand (miss remember the number) blade PC circular saw. I tried it out over the weekend and man is it nice. The cord on that thing is LONG. It is a bit large for doing just panels and such but I still do enough rough work that I really needed a "full size" saw. And my old Craftsman (a gift when I got my first place of my own) is dead in the water.

Bruce, after spoiling my grand kids, with my middle daughter from Oregon also at the house in Pa. , I was gifted a Garmin 205 talking GPS and it's a hoot!
Being an original doubting Thomas I asked middle daughter (one of my three wire head kids +1 S-I-L), " what if I did a few 360's in the parking lot of a shopping center" on the way to a nice restaurant for supper. I did and the nice Garmin lady then said " recalculating---turn left and left" several times, and my daughter said that the next time she would tell me that she told me three times and as I did not pay attention that she was out of here and I was on my own. ha ha ha.
