I’d like to use wenge for major decorative elements in an American white oak side table. Does anyone have experience with this mixture of woods, and, if so, can you share any advice on the compatibility of the woods? Also, do I need to treat the woods differently as I prepare them for lacquer finishing?

I used wenge along with white oak in a rather large project. They go together quite nicely because despite the color contrast, they have a certain similarity in structure. One thing to be careful of - don't let wenge sawdust fill the pores of the neighboring oak. (Of course there's the litany of precautions using wenge in general - the splinters have an agenda of their own and invariably get infected)

What ring said. Do all your sanding ahead of time with the parts separate. After that, only scrape, otherwise the colors of the dust infect one another and it's near impossible to un-infect it.
