Hi all!
I would like to know what the dimensions of a wedge should be if you are making a wedged tenon
Mainly – what should the angle, and length be? The width is pretty much defined by the tenon, I would think.
I have read that you saw a kerf in the tenon and then drive the wedge in. But how thick to make the wedge? What angle should it be?
No one seems to mention that in articles where they suggest wedged tenons.
Thanks!
Gregg

I don't know if there is a recommended angle for them, but I would go with 8 degrees. It works for me.

Wedges dimensions
I searched my back issues of FWW. Issue 163 has an article on wedges. They make reference to anagels between 3-5 degrees dependng on whether it is a single or double wedge. A single wegde at 5 degrees with the mortice angled back at 2.5 degress on each side. For double wedges the article makes referecnes to angles between 3 and 4 degrees.
