The new issue of FWW shows a guy spraying TopCote on hollow chisels used in a mortise machine.
Won’t it screw up the glue up? Nothing sticks to wax. Perhaps the amount that ends up in the mortise is to small to matter.

I suppose it depends on how much he sprays on....Seems like overkill to me. On occasion I have used a candle-that way just enough goes on.
I would assume that the actual chisel is as it should be i.e very slightly larger at the tip than the top, but even so some timbers seem to like holding on to the chisel- and so something like candle wax works fine.
I keep a wax (beeswax, I believe) toilet ring at my bench for use whenever I want to drive a screw, etc. I also use it for my mortiser. When I start the thing, it usually howls like a hound dog on a scent. I just touch the tip of the spinning drill to the wax ring and silence reigns. Never had any problems caused by the wax. Not that much gets on the tool and the heat of the drilling melts it -- my guess is that the drill cuttings pretty much carry most of it away.

Isn't Top Coat a dry lubricant?
I use a high temp Teflon spray, made by Osborn on my hollow chisels, and it has never caused a problem. The spray dries to a dry film, but just to be sure to prevent any contamination, I make a few mortises in scrap, before using it on a project.
