Waterproofing wood for the bathroom
Hello all
My tiling skills have recently let me down, I have forgotten to put tile edging on the end of my tiles. However I would still like to have a nice neat finish.
What I am thinking of is using my router table and router and creating some beading/edging of my own. Although this won’t be in direct contact with water it will be exposed to moisture in there-how can I prevent this? I am planning on painting/spraying the wood white first but how can I make sure this would is waterproof if at all?
Thank you for any advice.

Ceramic Tile
They do make a plastic edging for corners and ends of tiles.... in white. Available at the tile stores.
Otherwise I'd use an exterior white house paint on the wood. Nothing is bullet proof when it comes to water.

Sealing Wood
Epoxy might be one possibility.

You can use thompson's water seal water proofing products for your bathroom wood. They got Thompson's advance natural wood protector that can provide maximum coat protection for your wood. You can apply this either by brushing it or spraying it. You just need to make sure you have all the surface covered. - J.S.
I think painted wood will be fine. My own choice of paint would be Benjamin Moore's Satin Impervo, its an oil based paint that I swear by for painted cabinets. Just be sure to do all sides of your piece before applying. You should also choose a caulk for the wood/tile joint. Match it to the wood color or the grout color. If you grout that joint it will crack over time as the wood moves.
Good luck.
