Does anyone know where I can get water white lacguer? I used to buy it from auto body paint supply, but no one around where I live now even knows what it is.

jigsaw ,
Some brands don't call it water white any longer , some may call it "clear "
I use a clear sealer and clear top coat . These newer products do a great job , the UV rays will yellow wood , even though the lacquers we use stay very clear the wood can still yellow in some cases .
Your local paint store should have a line of products for your needs .

Jigsaw, I use CAB-Acrylic. It is water white, never yellows. I use Sherwyn Williams and the companion high-solids sanding sealer.
What you want is a CAB laquer. It is water clear and will not yellow. There used to be several makers of this and some had catalyzed versions for increased durability. I know Sherwin Williams has a version.

Rich, that it does appear. I like to use a thin coat of vinyl sealer under my CAB. Long time ago, almost 20yrs, Mohawk Finishing had a catalyzed CAB, very durable. I did a Faux marble table using that as a top coat, still holding up today.
