Good evening everyone
I am about to invest in my first waterstone set up and honing guide. i was looking at the Veritas Sharpening pond and the MKII honing guide.. anyone use these or can stear me to other products.
I was watching a video with Chris Gouchour ( I think ) and he had a nice shop made box with all 3 stones on top it might be nicer to make one then get the Sharpening pond… Let me know your taughts .. Z

Hi Z
For storage, get yourself a couple of Tupperware-type containers that seal tightly instead of the Stone Pond. I have a SP, but it is used to store stones dry (Kings and natural stones of 4000 grit and above). It does not seal and water will evaporate, which means that eventually you will be left with mud and dry stones. Stones (listed above) below 4000 need to be stored wet.
The LV Mk II is the best honing guide on the market.

I have heard that the pond is also not very stable holding the stones..
I use a sheet of 1/8" rubber I picked up @eBay to do all my honing on top of my bench..
It does not look sturdy and I am pretty rough on everything ( just ask the Wife!!!) Now the Norton Stones must always be kept underwater 24-7 ? Z
It's my understanding that the waterstones don't NEED to be kept underwater 24/7, however since they are supposed to be soaked before use, it seems to be more convenient to store them in water. I've used the tupperware method Derek mentioned, and it works great. I've had them this way for a couple of years and I seldom have to add water. Usually after I've given my stones a good workout, I reflatten, add fresh water to the Tupperware and back on the shelf, 'till next time.
Thanks for all the information everyone... Z
I built my own "pond", which has a platform to hold my waterstones.

The pond catches any water run off. I used caulk along the edged of the bottom to prevent leaks.
You should also be aware that not all waterstones require submersion in water. Japanese waterstones only require spraying some water on the top to get them going.
