I recently purchased a 4000/8000 norton water stone and was wondering if this stone should be kept in my water bucket like my 250/1000 stone. Also wanted to know how often i should change the water I keep my stones in. The reason iam asking is i was watching a video and saw someone pull the same stone out of their bucket ,but on another video they where using an 8000 stone and said not ot keep it to wet.

The most recent recommendations I have seen are to store the stone dry. Soak for 5 minutes (or until bubbles stop leaving the stone) when needed. I wouldn't hesitate to leave it in water all day if I need to keep touching up an edge, then store it dry until the next time I need it.
WATER STONE STORAGE
I have the 1000/4000 & 1000/8000 Norton water stones and I store them both dry. Then soak them for about 15 minutes prior to use. I've had these stones for a couple of years and they still work like new, so it would appear that the dry storage works well.
Best of Luck.
