I just read about Target Coatings’ Oxford brand water based shellac in another post. Is this too good to be true? Has anyone tried this? Does it behave like shellac dissolved in alcohol? Does each coat burn in to the last?

Hi Quickstep,
I've had some experience with it. Target Coatings calls it a 'sealer and barrier coat'. As that implies, it's dewaxed. It sprays well, the odor isn't bad at all - still wear a respirator, of course, but at least the shop won't stink for days after. They have three shades, but no super-blonde. It gives a very nice finish but raises the grain much more than regular, alcohol based shellac. It's not the easiest stuff to get your hands on - I have to mail order it, but you may be luckier (I'm in Canada).
Target also has a great support forum (for all their products) at:

Edit: forgot to add that it does burn in, like regular shellac. So does their USL (water based spray lacquer), but not all of their other products do.
