My wife asked me to make her a secretary like the ones she saw in a book in my library. The book was Winterthurs collection of American Furniture of the Queen Ann and Chippendale Period. I do not work from plans,I only work from photos,so I took elements from various pieces and incorporated then into my interpretation of a Secretary in the 18th Century Style. You may recognize some of the elements. The Gallery is from Lonnie Byrds Pa. Secretary, the finials are from Orion, etc.etc. I mill most of my own timber with an Alaskan Mill so I had a pretty good stash of walnut on hand, and it is my favorite domestic wood to work with. I used machines to dimension the lumber however, all joinery is done with hand tools (with the exception of the long sliding dovetails for which I used a router. The moldings and beads are carved and scraped. all surfaces are hand planed. The only secondary wood is Spanish Cedar which I almost always use for drawer bottoms It’s light and I like the smell it gives the finished piece. All drawers are fully slipped and there are several secret compartments. This is a case on case piece and the backs are raised panels. The brass is from Horton Brass and the finish is shellac;Bysaki and Kumsi buttons followed by de waxed blonde French/Italian Polish. Thanks for looking. Gene

Beautiful piece, Gene.
You can be justly proud of this piece. Bravo.
That is a beautiful, very thoughtfully executed.
Your wife should be thrilled. I think she 'owes you one'.
Yikes, simply beautiful. I am intrigued by the fans behind the tops of the tombstone doors.
Just to make me feel more inferior . . . how many hours in design, and how many in construction??
oops, still learning to edit . . .
On a double post, why can't i just hit a "delete" button?
Simply beautiful. Elegant and well executed in every detail. Great job.
