Our very own Stan Foster is neck and neck in the Dewalt tools contest.
He builds beautiful curved stairways and is a long time Taunton supporter. We love to see his projects over at Breaktime.

not only do have to vote but grab a few friends and send them off to vote. You're allowed to vote three times a day until the contest ends.
You don't have to go to the site on 3 alternate occasions to vote either. Once there you can cast the vote... hit return to project and vote again.. then return to project and cast the 3rd vote. Saves time and gaurantee's all you old farts with memory problems gets it done with one "swoop". ha.. ha... ha.. ha.. ha..

It is kind of a strange setup, but it is what it is. There are some nice projects on there, but of course, I think Stan's stairs are marvelous.
The way the winner is determined by DW is basically a farce but... as you say that's the way is it and I would hate for popularity to decide a winner even though that is exactly what is going to happen with the way DW did set it up. So.. vote for the best entry 3 times a day and maybe DW will wise up next time even though that's very questionable. :>)

It's simple just click here to go to Stan's project page.

keep going guys, he's tied for the lead, do you seriously want a bunch of boxes to beat perfectly curved stairs. the winner is obvious, you just need to vote. 3x a day every day
this is his project voting page http://www.dewalt.com/us/top17/vote.aspx?projectID=109

So you think those boxes will beat Stan if they get more votes? The builder of the boxes will be a better finish carpenter than Stan if he can get more people to vote three times a day with a bunch of different e-mail accounts?
Horse Shat.
As far as I'm concerned Stan is already a winner. He followed the contest rules, has behaved honorably and built an obviously superior example of finish carpentry.
The contest is meaningless. Aside from Stan there are a couple of others that followed the rules and are better examples of finish carpentry than the little kitchen.
It has become not a matter of skill and proficiency in carpentry but a contest of who can mobilize the greatest number of people who have no idea what is involved in finish carpentry but are proficient in networking, character assasination and button pressing.
Encourage people all you want to vote and influence the contest but don't make out that Stan will be a loser and the builder of the play kitchen the winner depending on the results of a BS contest.
Stan has already demonstrated work worthy of the title Finish Carpenter and for those who do not appreciate the skills required for that work I would suggest you go give it a try.
Suggesting that the kitchen will "beat the stairs" is like saying the last place finisher in the Indy 500 really won because more people who know nothing of racing liked the babe that was standing next to his car before it crapped out and coasted into the pits.
Encourage people to look at the projects and vote but leave out the moronic schoolkid cr@p.
Edit: missed an end quote.

Andy;
I wrote that last post without looking to see who I was responding to. (A common occurence for me.)
The school kid cr@p remark was meant for a poster who I presumed was not a schoolkid. I hope you take it as a compliment that I think of you as an adult and peer.
I will continue to treat you as such and let the chips fall where they may.

well, nice to talk to you too, but wouldn't it be better if the true deserver actually won. yes I know this is a popularity vote, but so is the election, and sports teams.

You are about to learn a lesson in wasting your breath.
The only upside to this lesson is that hopefully it wil make you more aware of how a self serving, narrow, negative attitude will turn you into an ignorant curmudgeon in your later years.
thanks, i think I'm going to shoot myself now if that is how my life is going to turn out. so goodbye to all, I had a great time

"It has become not a matter of skill and proficiency in carpentry but a contest of who can mobilize the greatest number of people" -- who will go look at DeWalt's website!
DUH! This ain't about nothin' but marketing the black and yellow brand. Never was. There was never some altruistic plan to seek out, acknowledge and reward "the best trim carpenter."
The goal is to increase DW's brand awareness. Not sure how much one blade on the leaderboard is worth, but each one means a whole bunch of people visited (and maybe even bookmarked) the DW web page. Mission accomplished. Doesn't really matter to DW who wins. And do you think the timing of the voting occurred during the Christmas shopping season was an accident? I don't. I can see a bunch of voters thinking about picking up a yellow drill for hubby for Christmas -- you know, just like the one Donut Boy used to make that really, really cute wooden refridgerator. LOL!
I'd love to see Stan win, and he gets 3 from me every day, but I figger the real winners here are those like me (and probably you) who have enjoyed looking at Stan's projects and maybe even learning something from his methods.

Andy I would have to agree with Mr Hole on this one. You should just ignore Mr Green and go on and have some fun with the rest of us. As you have already determined Stan's work is of the quality that will outlive us all. It will do the talking many years from now.
Take care,

You guys might place your poiner on Andy's name and click on it to read his profile which will appear. He is 15 years old and if you have raised teen-agers you realize they have much testerone which relates to gusto and are not honed in the manner of World Class Diplomats at this stage of the game. ha.. ha... ha..ha..ha..

Some of us know Andy very well, good kid.
Some of us don't know you quite as well. But you sure seem like a well reasoned individual. Something to be gained, and shared with you I'm sure.
Some of us have been around the block enough to know that some people are not reasonable.
I pretty much just call a spade a spade, MH. Eliminates a lot of errors attempting to read between the lines. Life is simple until we create a way to complicate it... and you won't find a shortage of complication. That's a fact. :>)
See ya at the voting booth... BTW.. I can be swayed with a pint of Jack Daniels slipped into my coat pocket as politicians used to do on election day in the "good ole boy" days of the south I grew up in.
Just kidding of course... I have been voting 3 a day each day for several now for the project I feel is the best. It just so happens what I consider to the be best of the best's creator appears to be class act from a conversation I had with him the other day. Icing on an already decorative cake..

I agree.
All things considered, in this contest, it's an easy choice.
mh,
You know, it's unfortunate that the intent of the contest isn't consistent with Stan's goal - that being to show everyone his quality work.
It's obvious to me that DW is using this contest as a marketing tool. From posts here and elswhere, that doesn't seem to be consistent with what Stan was trying to do.
It wouldn't surprise me to find out that some of the contestants actually used this contest for their betterment.
Wouldn't it be better if a manufacturer actually used a contest to promote the talents of a person vs promotion of their tools!? Who knows, they might just get lucky and find the talented person actually used one of their tools to make their entry!

Just wanted to tell you that stan did get the title of #1 dewalt finish carpenter. don't be mad that i told you this.
m/ (>.<) m/http://www.cocoboloboy.co.nr
It's nice to know he won. Stan's was staircase was far superior than some of the other leading contestants.
Thanks Andy... when I checked yesterday I believe... the vote was still being tallied and there were no results. I have been making wooden Xmas gifts all day and really haven't checked the site.
Sarge..
I checked out the stairs! I was so impressed by his work that I thought 'yeah, I'll vote for him'. Then when I got to the website I just checked out without signing up to vote. Stan gets my vote, but without the website vote. Art
That is pathetic.
I hope you are not an age classified grown man.
