My wife and I will be in Maine next month. While I am there I would love to take some tours of furniture making workshops. Has anyone been to a shop that should not be missed?
Thank you,
Josh

Check out Thos. Moser's operation in Auburn. It's worth it and they are more than happy to give you a tour.
Josh: Tommo had a great suggestion. I've only been to Moser's gallery in Freeport and Portland and their furniture is spectacular! If your not familiar with his work check out their web-site http://www.thomasmoser.com

Josh,
Might want to check out Lie Nielsen http://lie-nielsen.com/ and I'm sure there are many more.
The foliage might also be great too.

A Woodworkers mind should be the sharpest tool in the shop!

Hi Josh,
My suggestions:
Visit the Camden/Rockport area and visit the following:
http://www.windsorchair.com/
(very nice gallery, you can tour the shop)
http://www.woodschool.org/
(another nice gallery, and you can visit with the classes)
http://www.lie-nielsen.com/
(tools!, you can also tour the factory)
These 3 stops are within ~45 minutes of each other. Besides, this is a beautiful area to visit even without the "wood" shops. There are also other makers in the Camden area as well as some very nice wooden boatbuilding shops. Do some googling. Let me know if you have any questions, I live "up there".

Thank you everyone for the great suggestions. I think I can manage to visit all of these workshops on our 3-day weekend getaway.Josh
I have been to Green Designs in Portland (check the web site: http://www.greendesigns.com/). Beautiful solid cherry furniture. They will be happy to show you the shop and introduce you to the crew.
Try the center for furniture craftmanship in Rockland:

While you're there, visit the Farnsworth Museum. Also, eat lobster.
