I bought this antique chifferobe that needs a little help. It has vineer… well, as always the vineer as peeled in places and chipped off. I don’t think I can rescue it and restain it and make it look right, so I thought I might be able to use wood filler on it and paint it a shabby chic or something like that. It’s great wood and I hate looking the finish, but it has too many chunks out of the vineer to save think. Any suggestions, please please let me know. Thanks.

I have an old chifforobe in my pile of things to do. It's a 1920s piece, very nicely made but with the same veneer issues. If you have some loose veneer, sometimes you can heat it up with an iron, reactivate the glue and clamp it. There are two wood fillers that seem to adhere and stand up to just about anything. One is Famowood and the other is the Bondo like product from Minwax, neither takes a stain. For fine touch ups, automotive cream filler works. I'll probably paint mine, too, but it's way down on the list.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
