I use a varnish which I buy from a Violin supply house for violins which I make. It is considerable time between violins so the varnish sits in a half empty bottle for several months at a time. Now that I am ready for it again I find that is a solid mass. Is there someway to rejuvenate this varnish or is it history? Thanks for your help.

Bronko,
It sounds like history to me. It was some type of oil based product that has oxidised in the container.
Next time when you get done a few things to consider;
Turn the container upside down. It will slow the process.
Empty the leftover into a much smaller container that will have no air pocket at the top.
Lay a piece of saran wrap on the surface making sure it is flat prior to resealing the container.
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I've been on the road.
Peter
Thanks for the good advice.
