Does anyone have anything good/bad to say about the Delta 20-950 or Powermatic PM2800 variable speed drill presses?
I’m looking to upgrade from changing drive belts around, plus have longer quill travel.
I see prices are starting to come down; the Delta is $800, and the Powermatic is $950.
I’m particularly interested in learning about the good and bad features of these tools, and any opinions on each.
Thanks!

Find a used VS Delta or Powermatic. Lots around on ebay and the classifieds. You will spend half the cost of a new machine and use the money saved for a pile of lumber.
I didn't think that there would be any used ones available, considering their newness to the market.
Which begs the question...
Why are fairly new machines already available as used???

I'm not referring to fairly new machines but drills maybe 20-30 years old.
"Why are fairly new machines already available as used???" People bought what they couldn't afford. Sometimes (smaller tools) they bought for one project, needed cash, and culled the tools they don't use frequently.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
People buy what they can't afford?
In this country?
You're kidding me!

Forest..
My best guess they are Impulse purchasers like I am! I give my bad decisions away or just let them collect dust...
I do have some 'nice tools' that are not used very often. They just did on 'fit' my way of working things. I'm very hard to change my ways...
Old service man here. Just my opinions..
Electronic motor control good/bad is what you need to know. I would think the 'drill' parts are on par..( I do not know IF they are). Worked with many very expensive motor controllers that were JUNK! Expensive to replace.
Just a thought for you to look at... Not knocking either brand you stated!
