I’m almost ready to place my order with Veneer Supplies.com for the press I am building as per Joe Woodworker.com. I’ve got:
1) 4×4 Duramax Polyurethane Vacuum Bag (elitebg4x4)
2) EVS Auto-cycling Pump Vacuum Press (Hardware) Kit (kit-evs)
3) Vacuum pump, Rietschle Thomas, 3.15CFM (pump-tt)
4) a vacuum breather mesh/net (vacmesh5)
I think I have it all, but if anyone has any suggestions for a change or addition, please let me know. I’d like to get it all in one order, as I am looking at about $125 for shipping, plus customs fees.
Many thanks,
Chris @ www.flairwoodwork.spaces.live.com

Chris,
Unless you NEVER do any work longer than 48" I would get the 8' bag. Poly bag is the way to go. It stay flexible when it's cold and can stand high temps and very puncture resistant.
How are his prices compared to Vacuum Pressing Systems? Darryl's pumps are 5 and 10 cfm which come in handy when doing large panels and curves.
My VPS setup is 15yrs old and still going strong.

Okay, I've changed my order to include a 4x9 bag instead of a 4x4. It is easier to seal off a big bag than make a small bag bigger. The four items come to $520. The pump will produce 3.15 CFM.Chris @ http://www.flairwoodwork.spaces.live.com(soon to be http://www.flairwoodworks.com)

Chris, You won't regret the extra $$$'s spent on the bigger bag. I've always left mine full size with a 44"x96" platen this allowed me to do shallow curves or change out the platen to a smaller size and do major curves.EarlFurniture...the Art of a FurnitureMaker

I'll second what Earl said. The larger bag is the way to go. I guarantee that at some point, you will want to veneer a table top, or something else, that won't fit in hat 4' bag.
Other than that, you seem to have it.

Chris,
FYI, my Vacuum Pressing System Compact 100 came with a 4 x 4 bag.. I later purchased a 8 foot bag to accommodate veneering longer pieces.
Polyurethane bags are definitely the ticket, as they are much tougher. I wound up with 30 mil vinyl with my VPS bags, still wished I bought the poly bags..
and another . . .
I got a VPS compact with the 4x4, and sure enough, had to have the 8 ft bag in short order. With the bigger pump to boot.
At least get the bag. You can always close it mid way and save trying to evacuate all that extra space.
